Biopartner center wageningen
nIEUWE KANAAL 7, WAGENINGEN
The Food Valley Incubator
One of the activities of Kadans Biofacilities is the continuation of all activities of BioPartner Center Wageningen (BPCW), which was founed in 2001 as catalyst and incubator of the Food Valley. The incubator is located in the middle of the Food Valley region, the food center of Europe, and most promising and innovative food cluster at the moment. More than 10,000 people are daily active with research, development, education and entrepreneurship in the Life Sciences, Food and Health.
Decreasing barriers
Kadans Biofacilities develops, builds, rents and invests in housing in favor of third. This includes very explicit the specific tailor made housing for starters and young knowledge intensive companies, with the intention to give companies a low threshold access to a wide network of the Life Sciences sector and related sectors. Due to the collaboration with Kadans Biofacilities the network of relevant local, regional and national government organizations is also available for new businesses. Jeff Gielen explains why starting for this special group is more difficult than in many other branches: "Very pragmatic: there are many valuable investments needed. Office buildings enough, but that doesn't help the starters in this sector. They need laboratory space which include strict safety standards. Besides that advanced research equipment is necessary and is very costly." The proximity of the University of Wageningen solves a part of the problem: for the very specialized and most expensive equipment, companies can use the tools there.
Inspiration
Starters, young- and mature companies get service and support from Kadans Biofacilities and her network, including coaching in the broadest sense. As co-founder and partner of Food Valley Ambition 2020 for the Food Valley region, Kadans Biofacilities focuses at Wageningen and the surrounding area.
However she is increasingly active and visible throughout the Netherlands. Chiel van Dijen: "At first site we look near large Universities. There are the researchers, there they find support and inspiration. Besides that there are many buildings available to take over and which is already suitable for our goals, but we are also building ourself." Kadans signed a collaboration agreement with Wageningen UR Wageningen for the gathering of knowledge intensive companies and institutions to Wageningen. Furthermore Kadans Biofacilities has an option on 5 acres of land from Wageningen UR, located at Wageningen Campus, for the development of approximately 40,000 sqm offices, laboratories and multifunctional R&D spaces. She is also involved in the development of science parks in Wageningen, the Food Valley region, other (university) cities in the Netherlands and for the Climate-KIC program.
